Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the market for potential reinforcements in the midfield department for 2026.

The Merengues did not replace Toni Kroos last year and bid goodbye to Luka Modric a few months ago without signing a player to fill the void.

Arda Guler’s transformation into an option in midfield has been a positive, but Real Madrid remain on the lookout for another midfielder.

Links to Manchester City superstar Rodri continue to persist, but at the same time, the Spanish capital giants are keeping an eye on the red side of Manchester, where Kobbie Mainoo could become available.

Real Madrid and Atletico monitoring Mainoo

Indeed, according to the Daily Mail (h/t ESPN), Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are among a host of top clubs across Europe keeping track of Kobbie Mainoo’s situation at Manchester United.

Mainoo was keen on leaving the Red Devils during the summer due to his lack of game-time under Ruben Amorim. Real Madrid had been mentioned as a potential interested party back then, and it appears that the club are still keeping an eye.

Along with Los Blancos, their local rivals Atletico Madrid are also monitoring his situation, as are Napoli – a club that Mainoo was keen on joining in the summer, to reunite with former teammates Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.

A young and promising talent, Mainoo is not enjoying regular game-time at Old Trafford under Amorim. And if his situation at the club does not improve over the course of the season, an exit could become a possibility.

Real Madrid, thus, are watching any developments surrounding the 20-year-old Englishman very closely, and could consider making a move in 2026.
