Real Madrid and Fulham finalise agreement on €80m double deal | OneFootball

Real Madrid are about to bring in yet another big piece of business, with striker Gonzalo Garcia about to leave for the Premier League. The 22-year-old has attracted strong interest from Alvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham in recent weeks, and after several rounds of talks, a deal looks set to finally be completed.

Upon being appointed as Fulham head coach earlier in July, Arbeloa immediately set his sights on being reunited with Gonzalo. New Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has had reservations about parting ways with the La Fabrica graduate, whom he considers to be an essential profile for his squad, although an agreement has been reached in spite of this.

As per COPE, Real Madrid and Fulham have reached an agreement for Gonzalo. The Premier League side will pay €70m for the Spain international, which would be Los Blancos’ biggest sale of the summer – beating the €60m they received upon selling Nico Paz back to Como after they activated his buy-back clause.

Crucially, Real Madrid have given up all of Gonzalo’s rights in order to receive a bigger fee. Generally, they have sought to include buy-back and/or significant sell-on clauses when selling La Fabrica talents, but on this occasion, they will only have a right of first refusal.

Fulham also agree to sign Palacios for €10m

Minutes after the Gonzalo news was reported, Marca followed it up by confirming that Real Madrid and Fulham have also agreed a deal for midfielder Cesar Palacios. The 21-year-old, who featured 10 times for Los Blancos last season, has commanded a fee of €10m, and as part of the deal, 30% of his rights will also be staying at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are arguably the best sellers in world football, and this is another case of generating significant money from players that were not considered regular starters. This money can now be used towards Yan Diomande and Rodri, both of whom are closing in on moves to the Spanish capital before the end of the summer.
