In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. It has been stated that Los Blancos have set their sights on the Germany international as they look to improve their squad this year.
Schlotterbeck has enjoyed a solid campaign at the German club as he has put in a string of impressive performances for them on the defensive end of the field. The German talent has scored one goal and grabbed two assists in 18 matches for Borussia Dortmund this season across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a dominant presence when defending inside his half and deserves credit for making 25 tackles, ten blocks, 12 interceptions and 51 clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the back after completing 85.8% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027, which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Schlotterbeck is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and excels at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.91m, the German sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Los Blancos manage to land him this year.
Schlotterbeck would add more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The German could even help Los Blancos compete for some major honours in the coming years.
At 26, Schlotterbeck has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for the Madrid giants to consider this January or at the end of this season.
