Marc Guéhi’s performances for Crystal Palace have made him one of the most coveted defenders in Europe, and according to AS, Liverpool are now leading the race for his signature. Real Madrid’s interest has faded, mainly due to the financial demands involved, leaving the Premier League’s elite and Bayern Munich to battle for his services.
At just 25, the England international has become a defensive linchpin at Selhurst Park. As AS highlighted, Guéhi is “one of the best defenders this season,” and the numbers back that claim. Across 17 appearances, he has averaged 73% of duels won, 57% aerial success, nearly 10 recoveries per game, and 2.76 clearances. Those are elite-level figures that reflect both composure and consistency.
Palace’s success under Oliver Glasner has further enhanced his reputation. Winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, including a victory “against a struggling City side,” put Guéhi in the spotlight. Glasner described him as a player who “wants something different,” suggesting ambition that stretches beyond South London.
Liverpool’s reported pursuit makes perfect sense. With Ibrahima Konaté linked to Madrid, Arne Slot’s side would need a commanding replacement capable of stepping straight into a Premier League title-contending squad. Guéhi fits that profile seamlessly. His blend of athleticism, tactical discipline, and leadership makes him an ideal modern defender for Slot’s system.

Last summer, AS noted, “he was close to joining Slot’s team, but Palace backed out at the last minute.” That hesitation may prove costly, as his stock has continued to rise. Now with his contract expiring in June 2026 and no signs of renewal, Palace face a difficult decision: cash in in January or risk losing one of their most valuable assets for free.
For Real Madrid, Guéhi has simply become too expensive. AS reported that “the player’s high demands, both in terms of salary and signing bonus, make his arrival virtually impossible.” With Madrid already investing heavily elsewhere, they have pulled out of the race.
That leaves Liverpool and Bayern Munich to compete for a player who could anchor a defence for the next decade. As AS summarised, “he wants to fight for titles, gain international recognition, and be a key player.” All paths seem to point toward Anfield.
For Liverpool fans, this potential signing feels like a statement of intent. Marc Guéhi’s form has made him one of the most complete centre-backs in England, and his arrival would strengthen a defence that has occasionally looked vulnerable when Konaté has been unavailable.
Financially, Liverpool are in a stronger position than most to make the deal happen. For a player “who wants to fight for titles,” as Glasner stated, Anfield looks like the natural next step. If Liverpool can finalise this transfer, it would not only reinforce their backline but send a clear message across Europe that the Reds are planning for dominance once again.
