Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool still tracking Dortmund star | OneFootball

Nico Schlotterbeck was heavily linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.

He eventually signed a new contract with BVB until 2031, but that did little to end the speculation, with reports revealing that the deal included a clause allowing him to leave for a select group of clubs for €50-60 million during the summer transfer window.

However, when Schlotterbeck suffered a rather serious ankle injury during Germany’s second World Cup game against Côte d’Ivoire, it became clear that a quick departure from BVB wouldn't happen.

The 26-year-old made his return to action against Paderborn on September 12, and now that the defender is fully fit again, speculation surrounding his future has been reignited.

According to transfer insider Ekrem Konur, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to monitor Schlotterbeck, with the three clubs reportedly seeing him as a potential long-term option at the back.

German media have suggested that the centre-back’s release clause will become active again in summer 2027, so speculation over his future will likely intensify as the season progresses.
