According to La Repubblica, Luka Modric has given his green light to join AC Milan in the summer once his long spell at Real Madrid comes to an end.

The Croatian midfielder, who will leave Los Blancos after the Club World Cup, is ready to take on a new challenge in Serie A, and Milan are currently in pole position to secure his signature.

Modric, now 39, has spent 14 glittering seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu and announced his plans to part ways with the club last month.

Although there had been some speculation about a possible contract renewal to extend his stay until 2026, Real Madrid have now decided to move forward without him.

Modric to continue in Europe

AC Milan have been quick to react. The club has reportedly prepared a one-year deal for the Ballon d’Or winner, and talks are said to be progressing well.

Sources suggest that Modric has already agreed to the proposal in principle, and the Italian giants are optimistic about completing the transfer soon.

Newly re-appointed manager Massimiliano Allegri has made Modric a key target for the summer window. Club director Igli Tare is also backing the move, with the Croatian’s name featuring prominently in internal discussions.

Despite his age, Modric is viewed as a signing who can bring not just experience and leadership, but also immediate quality in the midfield.

What gives Milan a distinct advantage is Modric’s personal ambition. While lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia were on the table, the veteran midfielder turned them down.

His dream is to play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and for that, he believes staying in European football is essential.

At this point, Modric’s move to Milan appears to be a matter of time. The Rossoneri are offering him both the platform to continue playing at a high level and the opportunity to compete in Europe.

If things proceed as expected, fans at the San Siro will soon witness one of the modern greats donning the red and black shirt next season.
