Real Madrid captain makes strong promise to Vinicius after Simeone incident – ‘With you until the end’ | OneFootball

Federico Valverde once again showed why he is one of the most respected figures in the Real Madrid dressing room. 

Following a heated moment involving Vinicius Jr. and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone during the Spanish Super Cup, the Uruguayan midfielder stepped forward to publicly and privately defend his teammate. 

Real Madrid’s victory over Atletico secured their place in the Spanish Super Cup final, but the match was not short of tension. 

Vinicius found himself at the centre of attention after a confrontation with Simeone during his substitution.

 While the incident sparked debate, Valverde wasted no time in standing firmly by the Brazilian winger.

Valverde’s message to Vinicius

Valverde took to Instagram to show his backing in a very personal way. Sharing a photo of himself hugging Vinicius, the midfielder sent a strong message of unity with the caption, 

“No one is getting me off this ship with you until the end.”

Valverde’s support did not stop on social media. Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, the Uruguayan captain went into detail about why Vinicius means so much to him and to the club. 

“I’m going to give my all for Vini Jr. As captain of Real Madrid, and as Vinicius’ teammate, I’m going to go to war with him. 

“He’s a special player for me and for the club. He’s given us a lot of joy and will continue to do so. I also went through a bad time, and the first message I received was from him. I will always be with him.”

This is not the first time Valverde has defended Vinicius in public. 

Earlier in the season, when the Brazilian faced criticism and boos from the Santiago Bernabéu crowd after a run of poor performances, Valverde was once again among the first to show solidarity. 

Those moments revealed that their relationship goes far beyond what happens on the pitch.
