According to an update from Real Madrid Confidencial, Bayern Munich are already preparing for the possibility that Dayot Upamecano could leave the club, with Real Madrid reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

The French defender, whose contract runs until 2026, has yet to decide on an extension, and interest from Madrid has certainly not gone unnoticed.

Bayern are focused on maintaining stability, but they are also planning ahead. Sporting director Max Eberl has previously stressed the club’s desire to renew Upamecano’s deal.

At the same time, Bayern are developing contingency plans in case the 25-year-old opts for a move.

Among their top alternatives are Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund and Zeno Debast from Sporting Lisbon.

Both players are seen as strong replacements, and Bayern have the financial capacity to make either transfer happen.

Schlotterbeck on Real Madrid’s Radar

However, Real Madrid also have their eye on Nico Schlotterbeck, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising defenders in the Bundesliga.

His contract with Dortmund runs until 2027, leaving just one year remaining next summer. While Dortmund are eager to extend his deal, Schlotterbeck is in no rush to commit, keeping his options open.

This aligns perfectly with Real Madrid’s strategy, but also represents a massive conundrum considering Bayern Munich’s presence in the operations involving both Upamecano and Schlotterbeck.

Should Upamecano ultimately decide to move on, Madrid would be well-positioned to pursue one of Europe’s most highly-rated centre-backs.

By staying proactive, the Spanish giants are ensuring that their defensive future remains secure, regardless of Bayern’s decisions.

Lastly, it must be noted that signing a centre-back is of extreme importance for Real Madrid.

This is because David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s contracts expire next year, and so far, reports have it that the team does not intend to renew the duo’s deals.
