Real Madrid are gearing up for their UEFA Champions League away match against Lille with a significant milestone within reach.

The Spanish giants are on the brink of equalling one of their club’s most impressive records in the competition. They have currently gone 14 consecutive matches without a defeat in the Champions League, and a win or draw against Lille would allow them to match their best-ever streak of 15 unbeaten games.

If Real Madrid manage to extend their undefeated run against Lille, they will then have the chance to surpass that record in their upcoming matches.

Their next two fixtures are against Borussia Dortmund on October 22 and AC Milan on November 5. However, the ultimate target for Los Blancos is to chase down Manchester United’s record of 25 consecutive unbeaten games in the Champions League.

That record came to an end when Barcelona defeated Manchester United in the final in 2009.

Madrid’s current unbeaten run began in the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League with a dramatic victory over Union Berlin.

Jude Bellingham scored a late goal to secure the win, and from there, Real Madrid went on to win all their group-stage matches, beating Napoli and Braga along the way.

In the knockout stages, they saw off Red Bull Leipzig in the round of 16 before experiencing a series of four consecutive draws.

These included two against Manchester City, with Real Madrid eventually triumphing on penalties at the Etihad Stadium, and another draw in the first leg of their semi-final against Bayern Munich.

In the return leg, Real Madrid broke the sequence of draws with a comeback win, thanks to two goals from Joselu.

Their most recent Champions League match ended with a victory over Stuttgart, marking 14 games without defeat. Now, against Lille, they aim to extend that run to 15 unbeaten games and keep pushing towards even greater heights.
