Real Madrid have hit out at LaLiga president Javier Tebas after he criticised the club on social media following their defeat at the Metropolitano.

The club said in a statement that it was intolerable for the league’s president to use his position to discredit and attack Real Madrid, adding that it was very worrying he repeatedly targeted the club.

It called Tebas’s latest intervention especially serious and incomprehensible, unbecoming of a responsible executive, arguing he had commented on an independent journalist’s article and even assessed the club’s sporting strategy.

The club considered it surprising that Tebas used his time and personal channels to try to undermine Madrid publicly instead of building trust in institutions that must guarantee impartiality. It warned this damages the image of the competition and Spanish football worldwide.

Citing sustained inappropriate behaviour, Real Madrid argued that Spanish professional football urgently needs a leader able to manage and develop the competition with basic neutrality. It stressed the LaLiga president is not the owner of the competition, but a manager who serves the clubs, who need someone to fulfil that mission honestly.
