Real Madrid confirm Jude Bellingham injury as possible return date revealed | OneFootball

Jude Bellingham is expected to be sidelined until after the September international break after picking up a leg injury during training with Real Madrid.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder started the 1-1 draw with Mallorca last Sunday as Los Blancos began their La Liga title defence and was expected to feature in their upcoming clash with Real Valladolid on Sunday.

However, the European champions have confirmed Bellingham is being treated and assessed by their medical staff.

A statement from Madrid said: "After the tests conducted today on our player Jude Bellingham by the Medical Services of Real Madrid, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantaris muscle in his right leg. Awaiting further developments."

Speaking ahead of the home fixture with Valladolid, manager Carlo Ancelotti added: "Bellingham had a blow, he is being assessed."

Fabrizio Romano reports that Bellingham isn't expected back in action until late September, ruling him out of upcoming club games against Las Palmas and Real Betis and the Three Lions' Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland earlier that month.

Bellingham didn't feature in any of Madrid's pre-season games after reaching the final of Euro 2024 with England, being given an extended break following his international exertions.

The 21-year-old's absence could open up a starting role for veteran captain Luka Modric, who appeared as a substitute in the draw at Mallorca and also during the UEFA Super Cup triumph against Atalanta. Ancelotti is also already without France international Eduardo Camavinga, who has a knee injury, for up to six weeks.

David Alaba is still recovering from his torn meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament injuries, while Ferland Mendy's late red card last weekend means he is suspended for the clash with Valladolid.

There had been rumours suggesting Madrid would target a new centre-back to increase their depth at the back, but Ancelotti has continually insisted their business is done for the summer.
