Real Madrid have confirmed that Rodrygo has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious knee injury during last week’s match against Getafe.

The Brazilian forward tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus in his right knee shortly after coming on in the La Liga encounter. The injury was initially reported by several outlets following the match, before Madrid confirmed the full extent of the damage.

Spanish media estimate the recovery period could stretch to around ten months, meaning the 23-year-old will miss the 2026 World Cup with Brazil and is unlikely to return to action before early 2027.

It marks one of the most difficult moments of Rodrygo’s career. The Brazilian underwent the operation on Tuesday and later broke his silence on Instagram following the successful procedure.

Before the injury setback, Rodrygo had featured in 27 matches for Real Madrid this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
