Real Madrid have signed Bernardo Silva on a free transfer after his Manchester City contract expired, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Portugal playmaker has agreed a deal to 2028.
His arrival comes only days after Marc Cucurella joined, and he will work under José Mourinho in Madrid. Silva ends nine seasons in England.
Signed from Monaco in 2017, he became one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players at City. He made 460 appearances in all competitions, winning multiple domestic titles and the Champions League. A few weeks before his contract ran out, he had signalled his intention to leave.
Developed at Benfica, Silva is set for the fourth league of his career after Portugal, France and England.
Before linking up officially with his new club, he will play at the World Cup, starting on Wednesday against the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 19:00.
