After months of chasing Alphonso Davies’ signing as a free agent, Real Madrid were dealt a serious blow last night when it became clear that the player is close to renewing at Bayern Munich.
A recent meeting between the club and his agents has seen both parties take a massive step towards renewal, and an agreement is expected to be reached in the coming days.
Real Madrid, as a result, are now without their biggest target for the summer transfer window, and the question remains as to what their next move will be to reinforce the left-back department.
Given the high-quality left-back options on the transfer market, Real Madrid are now considering the option of signing former academy star Miguel Gutierrez if reports from The Athletic are to be believed.
The men in white hold a clause by which they can buy him back for just €8 million, a bargain for a player of his quality.

The management appreciate his ability to be a key contributor in both attack and defence and the stability he brings to the table.
Since leaving Real Madrid for Girona, Gutierrez has established himself as one of La Liga’s best left-backs and has started 18 games in the league this season.
In that duration, he has one goal and four assists to his name and averages 1.6 key passes per game.
His signing thus makes perfect sense for a club looking to amp up the attacking possibilities down the left flank, especially for the price he is available for.
The only question to be answered is whether Carlo Ancelotti will trust him more than Ferland Mendy or not.
