Despite Real Madrid securing a hugely important win over FC Barcelona last Sunday, all the talk around the club this week has been about Vinicius Jr. and Xabi Alonso.

The Brazilian superstar was clearly agitated after his substitution during the Clasico and made it clear to his manager as he walked off the field muttering and gesturing angrily.

Having had time to reflect on his actions, Vinicius issued a public apology to his teammates, club, and the fans on Wednesday, although, intriguingly, there was no mention of Alonso in his message.

However, according to Melchor Ruiz of COPE, Real Madrid consider the matter with Vinicius closed and resolved.

The club, the players, and Alonso himself have accepted the Brazilian’s apology in good faith, although it still remains unclear why he did not mention the coach in his official message.

As per the report, before issuing a message in public, Vinicius spoke privately with the dressing room and issued an apology, following which he also had a face-to-face conversation with Alonso as well.

Despite everything, Alonso’s name was not mentioned in the 25-year-old forward’s apology message – something that the manager will likely be asked about when he speaks to the media on Friday leading up to the game vs Valencia.

However, within the dressing room, the general feeling is that the issue has been blown out of proportion externally and that its real importance inside the club is far less than it appears from the outside.
