In recent transfer windows, Real Madrid have made it a point to retain some control over the futures of the young prospects leaving the club in search of regular first-team action.

In most cases, the Merengues only sell 50% of the player’s economic rights to the buying club, while also inserting buyback clauses to have the option of re-signing them in the future.

One example is Nico Paz, who is now set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, after impressing at Como 1907 over the past two seasons.

Cash inflow from Alvaro Rodriguez

Another young prospect who has impressed since leaving Real Madrid permanently last summer happens to be striker Alvaro Rodriguez.

So much so that, the Elche striker is attracting significant striker from Premier League club AFC Bournemouth, according to AS.

Indeed, the English club have informed the player’s representatives that they are prepared to invest heavily in the deal, submitting an opening offer worth more than €22 million.

Bournemouth are not alone in their pursuit. Clubs from both Italy and Germany have made enquiries about the striker, while PSV Eindhoven were among the teams showing interest as early as January.

But Bournemouth’s willingness to exceed the €20 million mark has placed them ahead of their rivals in the race for Rodriguez’s signing for the time being.

Real Madrid retain 50% rights

Real Madrid will be watching the developments with Rodriguez very closely. After all, the Spanish giants retain 50% of the player’s economic rights, meaning they would receive half of any future transfer fee.

However, completing the transfer may not be straightforward for Bournemouth. Elche owner Christian Bragarnik is believed to value the striker even more highly and is expected to push for a larger fee.

Furthermore, Real Madrid’s involvement could also lead to the possibility that Elche could direct interested clubs towards Rodriguez’s €50 million release clause rather than enter negotiations at a lower figure.
