More often than not, when Real Madrid decide to part ways with a player from their academy who does not have an immediate place in the first-team setup, they insert buyback clauses as well as retaining a future sell-on clause.
This strategy ensures they retain some control over the future of the player and are either able to bring him back to the club or profit from any future transfers.
Now, according to Il Messaggero in Italy (h/t AS), Real Madrid could be in for a €10 million payday as one of their former players could be poised for a big move.
Mario Gila, who plays for Lazio, has emerged as a key target for Inter Milan, who are understood to be ready to spend €20 million to sign him.

Should the 25-year-old Spanish centre-back end up securing the transfer, Real Madrid would be entitled to half the fee, i.e., €10 million, as they still retain 50% of his rights.
Gila joined Real Madrid’s youth setup in 2018, arriving from RCD Espanyol. The centre-back spent four years at the club, making two senior appearances, before joining Lazio in the summer of 2022.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable centre-halves in Serie A since. While there have been links over a possible return to the Bernabeu, they never came to fruition.
But Gila could be on the verge of securing a high-profile transfer to Inter Milan in a deal worth around €20 million. If it ends up going through, Real Madrid will stand to earn €10 million, proving their strategy pays off.
