On the eve of the Champions League clash between Real Madrid and SL Benfica, Thibaut Courtois addressed the controversy surrounding the incident between Vinícius Júnior and Gianluca Prestianni. The Belgian goalkeeper was keen to stress the importance of firmly condemning all forms of discrimination in football.

"I don’t think it’s any less serious (even if a different word was used). These are homophobic insults. Just like what happened in the stands was extremely serious."

He also emphasized that nothing can justify such behavior.

"You can like a player more or less, but acting this way is shameful."

A strong statement ahead of a return leg that promises to be especially tense at the Santiago Bernabéu.
