Having opted to bench Alvaro Carreras for Sunday’s La Liga game against Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid manager opted to start Eduardo Camavinga at left-back.
This despite the presence of Fran Garcia, who has served as the second-choice left-back for Los Blancos since Carreras’ arrival from Benfica last summer.
Now, it has emerged that in the days leading up the match, the 26-year-old defender came very close to leaving the Spanish capital club.
Indeed, as reported by Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Fran Garcia was on his way to AFC Bournemouth on loan until Real Madrid decided to block his exit, leaving the player and his camp disappointed.
The 26-year-old defender was a target for the Cherries, having played under their manager Andoni Iraola during his time at Rayo Vallecano.

The expectation on the player’s side was that he would be allowed to join Bournemouth on loan, a feeling he had conveyed to his teammates and the coaching staff.
However, Real Madrid ultimately decided not to go through with the operation and ended up blocking Garcia’s loan departure, much to the disappointment of the Spaniard.
The Spaniard essentially finds himself as the fourth-choice left-back under Alvaro Arbeloa at the moment, with Carreras, Ferland Mendy, and even Camavinga seemingly ahead of him.
So far this season, he has played only 14 times in all competitions, clocking a total of 701 minutes. So, his disappointment at being not allowed to leave on loan in search of minutes is understandable.
It remains to be seen if his situation at Real Madrid improves between now and the end of the season. But for now, Garcia has seen a chance to join Bournemouth on loan get shot down.
