Dean Huijsen’s Real Madrid stint began with the player meeting all of the club’s expectations and projecting a very positive image as their long-term centre-back mainstay.
Soon, however, his form began to drop, and he was no longer convincing in the same facets of the game that had initially impressed the club.
His distribution, which had always been perfect, began to show mistakes, and he no longer looked comfortable or accurate in his defensive actions.
Given Huijsen’s situation and declining prominence, it was always clear that he would need a turning point to make a fresh start at the club.
As revealed by MARCA, that point arrived earlier this week against Manchester City.

The 20-year-old has struggled with fitness in addition to form and only returned from his latest setback against Getafe.
His second appearance after retreating was against Manchester City, and he delivered a statement performance.
He offered exactly what Real Madrid have always wanted of him against Manchester City – strong in duels, confident with his distribution and no lapses in concentration.
He formed a solid pair with Antonio Rudiger and showed that the duo complemented each other.
The game not only impressed the management once more but gave Huijsen confidence again in his own game, and Alvaro Arbeloa and Co. will hope that the only way forward is for him to get better.
