Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is still recovering from the injury he sustained in April earlier this year, which required him to undergo surgery.

However, with the club signing Alvaro Carreras this summer to reinforce the left-back position and Fran Garcia’s impressive performances at the FIFA Club World Cup, have cast clouds of uncertainty over Mendy’s future.

Given the concerns about his fitness, Real Madrid are understood to be considering selling the 30-year-old French international.

Mendy wants to stay, camp surprised with renewal non-announcement

However, according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Ferland Mendy intends to stay put at Real Madrid and fight with Garcia and Carreras for the left-back position next season.

Furthermore, the report states that the Frenchman’s camp is surprised that Real Madrid have not yet announced the player’s contract renewal – even though it was already finalised last year.

Mendy and Real Madrid reached an agreement over a new deal until 2027 in September last year, with multiple reliable sources confirming the extension.

However, an official announcement was never made at the time and the Spanish capital giants are yet to confirm the new deal – something that has left the player’s camp surprised.

As things stand, Mendy is not expected to be available for the start of the 2025/26 season as he is yet to fully recover from his injury.

There is a possibility that he might not return until September, which would potentially rule out any chances of a departure altogether.

For now, though, the former Olympique Lyon man remains determined to continue at Real Madrid while he and his camp wait for the club to announce his contract renewal.
