Real Madrid defender’s physical trainer assures he wants to stay despite exit rumours: ‘He wants to play a key role and succeed’ | OneFootball

Raul Asencio has no intention of walking away from Real Madrid despite growing uncertainty surrounding his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. 

The young defender continues to be linked with a summer exit after reportedly being informed by Jose Mourinho that he is not part of the manager’s plans for the upcoming season.

While speculation over his future has intensified in recent weeks, those closest to the 23-year-old insist his mindset has never changed. 

Rather than looking for a move elsewhere, Asencio remains focused on earning his place at Real Madrid and proving he deserves an opportunity under Mourinho.

Speaking in an interview with AS, the defender’s physical trainer, Luiso Hernandez, has now shed light on Asencio’s mentality ahead of a crucial pre-season.

Asencio has been at the centre of transfer speculation throughout the summer following reports that Mourinho does not see him as part of his plans for next season.

Despite that setback, Hernandez revealed the defender has continued preparing with complete focus, refusing to allow rumours surrounding his future to affect his mentality.

“The key has been to treat the situation as normal. 

“To understand that Real Madrid is the most demanding environment in the world and that, when you’re at Madrid, you’re exposed to the possibility of this sort of thing happening.”

The trainer explained that uncertainty is part of life at one of the biggest clubs in world football, making mental resilience just as important as physical preparation.

“The reality is that, despite all the external noise that might be generated, you’re here today and you might not be here tomorrow,” he began saying.

Trainer reveals defender’s ambition

Hernandez also made it clear that Asencio has never considered giving up on his dream of making it at Real Madrid.

“He has always made it clear to me that he wants to stay at Madrid, play a key role and succeed.

“That’s why we’ve worked to ensure he’s in the best possible shape for this pre-season, which is a new and different situation for all the players at Madrid.”

The trainer believes the arrival of a new coaching staff offers every player an opportunity to impress, regardless of what happened during the previous campaign.

“Although last season wasn’t the best, the picture is now completely different because everyone is starting on an equal footing. 

“Beyond that, I believe Raul’s profile fits perfectly with the new coaching staff’s vision,” he concluded.
