Liverpool are running into the Real Madrid problem once again. Two stars plan to move there in a blow to the Reds.

Liverpool cannot escape the Real Madrid vortex. Los Blancos continue to scupper their plans, whether it’s grabbing targets or players from Anfield.

Last season was the worst for it, of course. Trent Alexander-Arnold was a key player for Liverpool but Real Madrid turned his head, forcing an uncomfortable season as he wound his contract down.

Now, Liverpool losing out on players to Real Madrid is nothing new. Half the team over there was once linked with a move to Anfield only for them to choose the Santiago Bernabéu instead.

But losing a first-team player to them was new. Or at least, it hadn’t happened since Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa went there in 2009.

The problem right now is that they’re at it again. In fact, Liverpool are seeing both sides of the problem at once.

Real Madrid's double blow

Sport claims that Real Madrid have both Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano on their agenda. That has Liverpool and Bayern Munich, respectively, seeking alternatives as they fear the duo may head to Madrid.

And that would be a double blow for Liverpool, given Upamecano is one of their top-tier options to replace Konate. Seeing the pair of them head for Spain makes life a lot harder for Richard Hughes as he tries to rebuild this defence.

But the Konate one, in particular, is proving difficult. The Reds have been in some sort of talks with him for around a year now, though that hasn’t led to a new contract.
