Real Madrid’s long-term recruitment strategy has once again led them to one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, namely Jorrel Hato of Ajax.
According to a report from Fichajes, the Spanish giants are keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old, who has become a key figure for the Eredivisie club.
However, despite their admiration, Los Blancos face fierce competition from the Premier League, where Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are prepared to go all out to land the versatile defender.
Hato, who can operate both as a centre-back and a left-back, has been turning heads across Europe due to his tactical maturity and calmness on the ball.
His ability to slot into different roles in the defensive line aligns well with Real Madrid’s preference for multi-functional players, particularly with question marks lingering over the futures of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
Despite their clear interest, the path to signing Hato won’t be simple. The Dutch media already anticipate a bidding war for the defender’s services and this is a scenario that often causes Real Madrid to step back.

The club’s policy is clear: avoid inflated transfer fees and maintain strict wage structures.
Real Madrid are determined not to compromise their financial discipline or disrupt the balance in their dressing room, even for a talent as promising as Hato.
For that matter, Florentino Perez and the sporting directors have consistently avoided being drawn into transfer market chaos, preferring strategic, well-structured deals.
Clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea are known for aggressively targeting young, high-potential players and have a recent track record of splashing significant sums to secure emerging stars.
Liverpool, under their evolving recruitment vision, are also eager to refresh their defensive depth with youth, making the race for Hato’s signature highly competitive.
This competition could ultimately price Real Madrid out of the move unless Ajax are open to more modest negotiations, something that may not happen if English clubs are indeed ready to go all in.
