Real Madrid’s run in the UEFA Champions League was not nearly as deep as it was dramatic.
From being nearly eliminated in the league phase to winning a thrilling penalty shootout against Atletico Madrid, Los Blancos had a roller coaster ride that ultimately ended against Arsenal.
Away from the field too, the men in white were in trouble with the authorities on a couple of occasions, the most notable one being the fine collected by UEFA for the inappropriate celebrations by Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe and Dani Ceballos after the win over Atletico Madrid.
Now, Mundo Deportivo bring to light that UEFA have hit Los Blancos with a fine once more, this time for a different reason.
Arsenal entered the second leg of their knockout tie against Real Madrid with a 3-0 lead, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men strongly believed in a comeback.

On the field at Santiago Bernabeu, however, matters quickly got ugly for Real Madrid as they could not put pressure on the English side. Frustration built in both players and fans and it appears that it was in that scenario that racist shouts were targeted towards certain Arsenal fans.
In light of the same, UEFA have hit Real Madrid with a penalty of €15,000 for the racist behaviour of fans. If the act is further repeated, there will be a ban on fans travelling for Real Madrid’s next away match in the competition.
For a club that has openly fought against the vice in the game and supported Vinicius Jr who is a pioneer of the movement, the recent development does not paint a good picture.
So far, there has been no clarification about what the racist episode was or the perpetrators involved, but what is clear is that they must face stringent punishment.
