Kylian Mbappe starred in Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Kairat Almaty last night and was, in fact, the player who ensured it was a proper demolition of the Kazakh side.
He opened the scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty spot and then went on to complete his brace in the 52nd minute with a unique goal that saw Thibaut Courtois register the assist.
Eventually, he completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute off an Arda Guler assist and thus made it 3-0. The scoreline eventually read 5-0, but it is clear that Mbappe had the biggest part to play.
Speaking to the media after his match-winning performance, Mbappe highlighted how it was difficult to move past the defeat in the derby but equally crucial to do so with a fresh slate.
“We cannot forget what happened this weekend. You must never forget.
“This is another competition, but you have to keep thinking about what happened and keep working to be better every day and not to spend another night like this.”
Elaborating on his role in the team and the responsibilities that he carries on his shoulders, the Frenchman said,
“My job is to help the team, I only think about that. I do what I can to make the team win. If I score goals, fine, but if I help the team in another way, fine too.
“The important thing is that the team wins matches and trophies.”

The forward then opened up on his connection with Arda Guler and how it was easy to connect with a player so talented.
“There’s a good connection. He is a young man who has a lot of quality, a great talent. We try to help you give your best version for the team.”
“Now he plays very well and we are very happy to have him on our team.”
While Mbappe has indeed been in red-hot scoring form, he could have had many more considering the many big chances he has missed. Speaking on that, he said,
“If I have five chances, I want to score in the five. That’s why Madrid bought me. I always want more.”
“Today I scored three, very good, but I think I could score more. I’m going to work to be better and try to be more efficient in front of the goal.”
Finally, the player spoke on Thibaut Courtois’ assist for his second goal, saying,
“I don’t know if he did it on purpose, but it was a huge pass. He scored 80% of the goal.”
