Real Madrid’s long-standing search for midfield control could finally take a positive turn, with the club now sensing a genuine opportunity to land one of their top targets.

According to a report from SPORT, Enzo Fernandez could be on the move in the upcoming summer transfer window, a development that significantly changes the landscape for Los Blancos.

For months, the Argentine midfielder had been viewed as untouchable at Chelsea.

The London side was not entertaining offers, and even hypothetical negotiations were believed to require well over €100 million to even begin discussions.

That stance made any potential move appear unrealistic. However, there is now a shift in the story.

What’s the new development?

Fresh reports suggest that Fernandez could indeed leave Chelsea this summer, with a potential transfer fee expected to hover around the €100 million mark.

While that figure still represents a massive investment, it is increasingly seen as justified for a player widely regarded as one of the most complete midfielders in the game.

From Madrid’s perspective, the interest is far from new, as the club has been actively searching for a midfield orchestrator since last summer.

In many ways, Fernandez ticks every box.

At 25, he is entering his prime years, and his profile fits perfectly with what Madrid currently lack in the middle of the park.

Chelsea in trouble?

Furthermore, it is said that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the club’s decision-makers hold Fernandez in extremely high regard.

What makes the situation even more interesting is Chelsea’s current trajectory. With the club at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification, internal pressures could force a rethink over their stance on key players.

In such a scenario, even long-term contracts, like the one Fernandez is tied down to until 2032, may not guarantee stability.

There is also the growing possibility that the player himself will push for a move, which could ultimately prove decisive.
