Xabi Alonso has a very stable squad at Real Madrid at the moment and has not had to dig deep into the academy to cover for any injuries.

In any case, however, he is completely invested in the prospects in the subsidiary team and academy and has maintained a clear eye on the progress of multiple prospects.

One such player they have their eyes on is Thiago Pitarch, La Fabrica’s 18-year-old midfield prospect who has been a regular in first-team training for a long time this season.

A clear plan

As relayed by Defensa Central in a recent report, Alonso continues to have a clear idea and eye on the young midfielder and has not forgotten him despite him not getting regular minutes so far.

The return of injured midfield mainstays like Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga has indeed made it more complicated for Pitarch to see a role in Alonso’s plans.

However, the manager does consider him to be special and is seriously considering calling him up for Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey opener scheduled in January.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have heavily counted on the youngster this season and the first-team and Castilla team managers have been in constant contact over Pitarch’s situation and evolution.

He will, thus, likely be called up for the team’s cup curtain-raiser and it is not ruled out that he makes the squad for the Spanish Super Cup in the same month, although that call-up will depend on the team’s injury situation.

Should everything go to plan, the idea is for Pitarch to be a regular in the first team for the 2026-27 campaign, and regular minutes this season will help him reach the desired level more easily.
