As reported by AFP on Monday, Kylian Mbappé (27) travelled to Paris in order to undergo further treatment on a knee injury that he sustained back in December.

In recent days, there have been reports that he could undergo surgery on the issue, which would be a blow not only for Real Madrid but also for Les Bleus, with the FIFA World Cup fast-approaching. However, his entourage, speaking to AFPsaid that surgery was not being considered “at this stage”.

Mbappé’s return will be on his terms

Real Madrid are hopeful of a swift return. Although the France captain will almost certainly miss the first leg of their Round of 16 tie against Manchester City, Los Blancos want him back for the second leg on 17th March, L’Équipe understands.

However, Mbappé does not wish to continue to sacrifice himself for the team while he is still injured. He has decided that he won’t play again until he no longer feels pain in his knee, in order to avoid compromising his availability for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
