Over the weekend, it was reported that Real Madrid were going to accelerate the deal to sign top target Alvaro Carreras after the Portuguese Cup final.

Unfortunately, the cup final ended up in heartbreak for Carreras as Benfica lost 3-1 to Sporting CP.

That hasn’t stopped Real Madrid, though, with the Spanish giants keen on getting the deal over the line as soon as possible.

According to The Athletic, Real Madrid are hopeful of completing the deal to sign Alvaro Carreras this week.

The report reiterates that Real Madrid consider Carreras the ‘chosen one’, in their bid to reinforce the ranks in the left-back unit.

It is no secret that the club are not happy with the current lot involving Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia – two players who have struggled due to either injuries or form.

Carreras, to that end, could be an ideal upgrade over Mendy and Garcia, offering technical quality and width going forward.

The Spaniard, who was formerly a member of the Real Madrid youth academy, is sure to thrive in Xabi Alonso’s system that does rely heavily on speedy full-backs.

Real Madrid, therefore, are determined to get their hands on Carreras. However, the club could face some issue meeting Benfica’s demands.

The Portuguese giants are holding out for a hefty fee for the services of the Spaniard, although they are open to softening the terms of the deal if Real Madrid offer two of their star players in Dani Ceballos and Fran Garcia.

As per The Athletic report, this week is going to be key as far as the Carreras transfer saga is concerned.

Both parties agree that a deal can be struck very quickly, so it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming days.
