As we near the halfway point of the season, it is perhaps fair to say that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s start to life at Real Madrid has been a disappointment.
The former Liverpool star has struggled with injuries almost all season, and it appears Dani Carvajal continues to enjoy number one status, when it comes to the right-back position.
Nevertheless, with Carvajal already in the final phase of his career and dealing with fitness problems again, Real Madrid have started looking out for a long-term replacement.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have identified Feyenoord defender Givairo Read as a primary target to eventually replace veteran Carvajal.
The club have initiated a detailed market analysis to secure the future of the right-back position.
Chief scout Juni Calafat is monitoring the 19-year-old Dutch player, with club representatives traveling to the Netherlands to compile reports.
Read is described as an attacking full-back with strong dribbling abilities. Reports compare his playing style to Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

Real Madrid view the Dutchman as a potential long-term competitor for the position alongside Trent.
The search comes as Carvajal approaches the final stages of his career. The club aim to have a successor in place before Carvajal’s eventual departure, which could occur between 2026 and 2028.
Real Madrid are also evaluating internal candidates. Jesus Fortea remains a prospect within the youth system.
Although the defender started the season strong, his progress has been stalled by an injury. Xabi Alonso and Castilla coach Alvaro Arbeloa continue to assess his potential for a first-team promotion.
But, options outside are also being considered, with Read emerging as an option.
