A few months ago, it seemed almost inevitable that Real Madrid would pounce on the market opportunity to sign not just one but two talented full-backs next summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies are the two players in question, with both their contract expiring at the end of the season.

However, while Real Madrid are set to face fresh competition from Barcelona in the race to sign Alexander-Arnold, the outlook on the Davies pursuit has not been bright either.

Saudi Arabian clubs interested in Davies

A recent report from Florian Plettenberg has offered a detailed report on the future of Davies, as he looks to take the next step in his career.

The journalist claims that Saudi Arabia clubs are growing increasingly keen on acquiring the services of Davies.

These clubs have not only made inquires but have also held discussions with the player’s entourage over a potential move to the Middle East.

These Saudi clubs, including Al Ahli, were particularly keen on signing Davies during the summer transfer window, but nothing came to fruition.

What’s in store for Real Madrid?

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, the club are still on the hunt to sign the Canadian international.

But recent reports suggest that the defender could be closing in on a renewal at Bayern Munich, who are pushing hard for an improved contract.

In fact, Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich are optimistic about their chances of securing a renewal agreement with the 24-year-old.

Davies has already lowered his salary expectations, which plays into the hands of Bayern. The Bavarians, in fact, are optimistic about tying the defender down to a new long-term contract.

For the time being, though, Davies is not looking to discuss his future and is more focused on recovering from a hamstring injury.
