With his goal against Borussia Dortmund (3-2) on Saturday in the Club World Cup quarterfinals, Kylian Mbappé has already matched an impressive record held by none other than Karim Benzema.

By scoring Real Madrid’s third goal on Saturday night against Dortmund, Kylian Mbappé sealed the victory for Los Blancos (3-2), sending them through to the Club World Cup semifinals. The French striker’s clinical finish also allowed him to equal a remarkable milestone.

Indeed, Kylian Mbappé has now found the net 44 times in his debut season wearing the Real Madrid shirt. He thus matches the record for most goals scored by a French player in a single season in one of Europe’s top four leagues, a mark previously set by Karim Benzema during the 2021-2022 campaign.

To reach this tally, Mbappé needed 58 matches, while “KB9” accomplished the feat in just 46 games. With a semifinal clash against PSG scheduled for next Wednesday and a possible final still to come, Mbappé still has the chance to break Benzema’s record.
