La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Wednesday discovered the length of time for which they will be without key defender Ferland Mendy.

Stopper Mendy, for those who may have missed it, was sent for an early bath this past weekend.

Afforded a start in Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against RCD Mallorca, the Frenchman was responsible for a needless, and frankly dangerous challenge on Vedat Muriqi deep into injury-time.

Referee Cesar Soto Grado did not hesitate in producing an immediate red card, a heavy blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s troops en route to an eventual 1-1 draw.

Following the full-time whistle at Son Moix, reports quickly spread that Mendy could be in line for an extended ban.

Safe to say, then, that all of a Blancos persuasion will no doubt be delighted to hear that, in fact, the 29-year-old has avoided as much.

Instead, as per a report from Marca, Mendy will be forced to sit out just a solitary La Liga fixture, against Real Valladolid this weekend:

‘The Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has imposed a one-match ban on Real Madrid player Ferland Mendy, following his expulsion due to a direct red card in the first round of La Liga match against Mallorca.’
