Vinicius Jr. has once again become the hot topic at Real Madrid lately, especially after the club’s recent defeat to Valencia.
The Brazilian had a game to forget, notably missing a penalty while producing very little going forward, despite scoring a goal in the second half.
The biggest talking point of the game was when Vinicius received boos and whistles from his own set of supporters at the Bernabeu, especially after he missed the penalty.
In a recent appearance in talk show Futbol es Futbol (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos talked about the jeers and whistles directed towards Vinicius against Valencia.
“I understand the Real Madrid fan,” said the former player and Real Madrid ambassador. “I understand very well what it’s like to be a Real Madrid fan or member.”
“It’s a club where the best always play, and if there’s a week or a match that goes badly, the player has to understand that the obligation is to always win,” he added.
Carlos is indeed well aware of the pressures that come with being a Real Madrid player. The Brazilian played for the club for 11 years, during which he featured in over 500 competitive matches.

Talking about the times when he used to face whistles, Carlos said, “They whistled at me very rarely, but when they did, I sprinted and asked for the ball.”
The former defender went on to suggest that if one wants to be a Real Madrid player, he needs to get used to the constant pressure and scrutiny.
“If you lose or draw one game, in the next you have to go back to being Roberto, Zidane, Vini, or Mbappe. To wear this shirt and withstand the pressure, you have to be very strong psychologically,” he said.
The Brazilian legend also talked about how football has changed, especially when it comes to the importance of set-pieces.
“Set pieces used to decide games; now they’re decided by distinctive players like Vinícius, Bellingham, or Mbappé,” he said.
Finally, Carlos shared his superstition and tradition about keeping a goatee. “The goatee? Because of the Champions League, when Madrid wins it, I shave it off. If they don’t win, I don’t shave it off. That’s why it’s so big because we keep winning,” he concluded.
