Aurelien Tchouameni is set to begin the 2026/27 season with a new contract at Real Madrid.

The agreement, which is still awaiting the final signature, official presentation, and one last meeting following the player’s vacation, will extend his stay at the club for another five seasons, until 2031.

It serves to reinforce Real Madrid’s long-term commitment to the French midfielder, whose future has been called into question in recent weeks, especially with new manager Jose Mourinho seeking a new midfield signing.

Salary details

Contrary to reports suggesting a much higher salary, Tchouameni’s new contract will not place him among the players earning double-digit net salaries.

Indeed, as per AS, according to the terms of the agreement, the midfielder will earn around €9 million net per season.

The deal does not exceed €10 million annually, and is well below the €12 million figure that had appeared in some media reports.

A straightforward negotiation

Tchouameni believes Real Madrid is the ideal place to continue his career, making the negotiations relatively simple to conclude.

That reality contrasts sharply with the transfer speculation that has surrounded the Frenchman in recent months.

Despite interest from clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid never entered into discussions regarding a possible transfer.

At Old Trafford, it was understood that any attempt to sign the midfielder would be unsuccessful.

Likewise, Tchouameni himself never expressed any desire to leave Madrid. Throughout the negotiations, he consistently communicated that his only objective was to remain at the Bernabeu and extend his contract.

He feels completely settled at the club, enjoys living in Madrid, and strongly identifies with everything Real Madrid represents. For that reason, there was never any real debate over his future.

Mourinho’s full backing

Although the renewal was ultimately a club decision, it has the full approval of Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach considers Tchouameni one of the finest players in the world in his position and sees him as a key figure in organising Real Madrid’s play.

Mourinho’s confidence in the former Monaco midfielder is described as absolute, with the new head coach seeing him as a leader.

Thanks to the mutual commitment shown by both player and club, the renewal has been one of the simplest agreements for Real Madrid to complete this summer.
