Real Madrid have decided against pursuing Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano, considering any potential move for the Frenchman to be highly unlikely and unfeasible, reports Defensa Central.

The outlet assures that the decision comes after careful evaluation of both the player’s intentions and Real Madrid’s own squad strategy.

Real Madrid believe that Upamecano is inclined to renew his contract with Bayern Munich.

However, they also see him as someone who wants to be linked with other big names to secure a higher salary, a strategy that has been successful for players such as Alphonso Davies.

Suspicion at Real Madrid

This approach is seen as a sign that Bayern are in full control of his future, making any move for him complicated.

Moreover, Real Madrid have already identified Ibrahima Konate as the defender who best fits their tactical and physical requirements, making him the preferred target.

However, the outlet also mentions that despite this development, there is nothing against Upamecano’s quality, but they do consider Konate as a better player between the two.

Furthermore, Real Madrid are confident that Bayern will offer Upamecano a strong renewal package, given the club’s approach to players whose contracts are nearing their end.

For this reason, combined with the belief that other defensive options are of a higher calibre, Madrid have opted not to pursue him and are unlikely to place a bid.

At the same time, Real Madrid remain composed regarding their current defensive situation.

While the backline is considered strong, the club is preparing for potential departures, particularly David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger in 2026.

Alaba’s exit had been expected for some time, but uncertainty surrounded Rudiger. With his ongoing physical problems and a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia, Madrid are increasingly accepting the likelihood of his departure.
