Real Madrid are unlikely to sign Bayern Munich forward Michael Olise this summer.
Madrid had made Olise their primary target and were willing to offer €220 million for him. However, Bayern are unwilling to sell the France international.
Tley have now shifted their attention towards Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to AS.
Los Blancos have made Fernandez a top midfield target over Ayyoub Bouaddi, Felix Nmecha and Mateus Fernandes.
They believe he has more top-level experience than other options and is better suited for the club.
Manager Jose Mourinho admires the Chelsea star for his defensive and leadership qualities.
Fernandez is open to joining Madrid. He previously made comments suggesting he wants to join the Spanish giants, which led to a two-game suspension last season.
Chelsea want to keep the former Benfica star, with manager Xabi Alonso keen to work with him. However, they could listen to offers in excess of €100m for him.
They are in a very strong position, with Fernandez having six years left on his contract.
Madrid want to make a high-profile midfield sale before stepping up their interest in Fernandez.
They are willing to listen to offers for Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga – both of whom have been linked with Manchester United.
Madrid are expected to sell just one of the two French midfielders to fund a move for Fernandez.
The 25-year-old would form a part of Los Blancos’ new-look midfield alongside Bernardo Silva, who is set to join as a free agent from Manchester City at the end of the month.
