After weeks of speculation and uncertainty, Real Madrid have finally confirmed the identity of their new manager. The process had been delayed by the presidential election, but after Florentino Perez retained his position, it has now been concluded.
During Perez’s election campaign, he confirmed that Jose Mourinho would take over as Real Madrid manager in the event that he won the vote against Enrique Riquelme. He did, which has left supporters waiting for official confirmation of The Special One’s return to the Bernabeu 13 years after his first spell from 2010-2013.
It has taken a few days for the announcement to come. Benfica have already noted that Mourinho is leaving after an agreement was reached for his exit, and on Thursday, Real Madrid confirmed that the Portuguese would be their new manager on a three-year contract.
“The Board of Directors of Real Madrid C. F., meeting today, Thursday, June 11 and chaired by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to appoint José Mourinho as coach of the first team for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029. José Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day that the preseason will begin.”

There is no doubt that Mourinho will need to be The Special One if he is to turn things around at Real Madrid, who are off the back of two seasons without a major trophy. Furthermore, there was increasing dressing room discontent at the end of predecessor Alvaro Arbeloa’s tenure, so he will also need to silve that problem – but if anyone can, it’s him.
It will be very interesting to see how Mourinho gets on during his second spell as head coach of Real Madrid, but right now, there is undoubtedly a lot of excitement among the fanbase at his return to the Bernabeu.
