Ibrahima Konaté is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract, and with no extension in place, uncertainty is growing over his future at Anfield amid reported interest from PSG.

Both PSG and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and could act if contract talks falter ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a previous report from Foot Mercato, Konaté has attracted attention from several top European clubs, including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. Despite speculation, Liverpool opted to retain the defender last summer, rather than considering offers.

Nonetheless, there could be one less club eyeing the Frenchman as he approaches the winter transfer window and could sign a pre-contract for next season.

Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna reports that Konaté is no longer a top priority for Real Madrid, with the Spanish club now favoring a move for Dayot Upamecano, with whom they have a verbal agreement. Meanwhile, Konaté remains a target for PSG and still has Liverpool’s contract extension offer available.

Last month, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has declined to rule out the possibility of Konaté signing a new contract with Liverpool, shedding light on the current state of negotiations.

“On Konaté, that’s a really interesting topic because there have been reports he’s rejected a new contract,” Ornstein said on NBC Sports Soccer. “Of course, he’s into his final 12 months. I don’t think it’s so much a rejection. Maybe more of a stalemate or a lack of an agreement basically.

“But I’m told talks are active. They’re ongoing, but nothing is close just yet. Suggestions, he’s on around £70,000 a week. I’m told it’s more than double that. So, he would want a really good contract. Deservedly, you could say, going into the highest brackets of earners, but that’s something they need to sort out. It could be affecting the team.”
