La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Wednesday made official once and for all their withdrawal from the Super League project.
Following the departures of the likes of Juventus and Barcelona in more recent times, Los Blancos found themselves left as the only remaining active participants in the Super League push.
This situation left Florentino Pérez and co. with very little option but to finally bring to an end their initiative to completely reshape European football.
On Wednesday afternoon, Real Madrid, in turn, released a statement.
The statement in question, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, confirmed the Spanish heavyweights’ withdrawal from all matters Super League-related, and can be read in full below:
“UEFA, the European Football Clubs (EFC), and Real Madrid C. F. reach an agreement for the good of European club football. After months of discussions held in the interest of European football, UEFA, the European Football Clubs (EFC), and Real Madrid C. F. announce that they have reached an agreement in principle for the good of European club football, respecting the principle of sporting merit and emphasizing the long-term sustainability of clubs and the improvement of the fan experience through the use of technology. This agreement in principle will also serve to resolve their legal disputes related to the European Super League, once a final agreement is implemented.“
