Jose Mourinho has offered a surprisingly positive assessment of Barcelona’s work under Hansi Flick, praising both the German manager and sporting director Deco despite the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

Speaking in an interview with El Chiringuito TV, the new Real Madrid manager was asked about several Barcelona-related subjects, including Flick, Lamine Yamal and the Negreira case.

Mourinho did not hesitate when asked whether he likes what he has seen from Barcelona under Flick, although he was more forceful when the conversation moved towards the Negreira case.

Mourinho praises Flick and Deco’s work at Barcelona

It must be noted that Barcelona have undergone major changes under Flick and Deco.

During the interview, Mourinho was asked about Flick and he responded by pointing not only to the coach, but also to the work being carried out by Barcelona’s sporting director.

“Yes, I like it. Great work. Flick, Deco, and great players,” he began.

The Portuguese coach was also asked whether he would like to have Lamine Yamal in his Real Madrid squad.

Mourinho made no attempt to downplay the Barcelona star’s ability and acknowledged the extraordinary achievements he has already enjoyed at such a young age.

“No. He’s a great player, no doubt, a young man with incredible potential.

“It’s unusual to be a European and world champion at his age, but we have a top squad, I wouldn’t make room for anyone.

“Right now, it’s my guys. My guys are the best,” said the Real Madrid boss.

Real Madrid manager reopens Negreira case

Mourinho was also questioned about the Negreira case and he gave a much stronger opinion on the matter.

“The Negreira case is in the hands of the Justice system… let’s see what the Justice system does.

“I’m simply telling you that, without knowing his name was José María Negreira when I was here, I sensed something.”

The Real Madrid manager was then asked whether paying the vice-president of referees made the situation an obvious case of manipulating the competition.

“It’s just a matter of having the courage to look him in the eye. In Italy, they did it with Calciopoli.”

Lastly, when asked whether that meant Barcelona should be playing in the Second Division, Mourinho refused to give a direct answer.

“That’s for you to decide. No, La Liga must have Barça,” he concluded.
