Previous reports had suggested that the Dutch prodigy would be open to making a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer. But things seem to have changed recently.

Liverpool take the lead in Kees Smit race

Indeed, according to Defensa Central, Liverpool now appear to have taken the lead over Real Madrid in the race for Smit’s signature.

The reigning Premier League champions have entered into discussions with young midfielder. Initial contacts have begun with a view to completing a transfer next summer.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have not yet made a concrete move to sign the teenager, despite their strong interest.

In addition to Real Madrid and Liverpool, clubs such as PSG, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring him closely.

Real Madrid have been tracking Smit for several months, even since last season. They had the chance to sign him last summer but opted against it, preferring that he continue his development for another year before making a move.

AZ, aware of the Merengues’ interest, offered the player on the condition that he remain on loan for one season. Real Madrid declined, and his market value has since increased significantly. All this makes things very complicated for the Spanish capital club.

Now, Liverpool, aware that Real Madrid represent their most formidable competitor for Smit’s signature, have sought to move first in negotiations. Their aim is to reach an agreement swiftly and prevent any late developments.
