Dani Ceballos wants out

Now, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic reports that Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is intent on leaving the club this summer.

Ceballos has been at Real Madrid since 2017, when he joined from Real Betis but has never been able to nail down a place for himself in the team.

The 27-year-old spent two years away on loan at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021, and upon his return, he was brought into the fold by Carlo Ancelotti, but minutes continued to come at a premium.

Despite the situation, Ceballos opted to sign a new contract with the Merengues last year, penning a four-year deal until 2027 with an improved wage that reflected his fine form towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

However, the Spanish international found himself starved of minutes again this past season, playing only 881 minutes. As such, Ceballos is eager to move on this summer and the club are aware of the situation.

No shortage of interest

The report further states that Ceballos is wanted by several clubs this summer and as such there will be no shortage of suitors should he decide to leave Real Madrid.

In fact, multiple talks have been held between the ex-Real Betis man and the reigning champions of Spain and Europe regarding his future and more discussions are expected to take place.

Real Madrid, for their part, continue to believe in Ceballos’ quality and wish to retain him. Ancelotti’s staff sees him as a player who can have a bigger role following Kroos’ retirement and Luka Modric’s departure in 2025.

The Merengues will not give him away for a small price either and believe that other clubs in Spain will have difficulties matching his salary as well. As such, an exit for the midfielder could end up being difficult.
