Jude Bellingham has been one of England’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but the Real Madrid midfielder now heads into one of the biggest matches of the tournament carrying an added concern.

As England prepare to face Norway in the quarter-finals, Bellingham knows that one mistimed challenge could cost him a place in a potential semi-final.

The 23-year-old arrives full of confidence after producing a match-winning display against Mexico in the Round of 16, where he scored twice to inspire England to a dramatic 3-2 victory.

However, alongside the excitement of another knockout fixture comes the reality of FIFA’s suspension rules, making discipline just as important as performance.

Bellingham is one booking away from suspension

Under FIFA World Cup suspension rules, yellow cards collected during the group stage were cleared before the knockout rounds began.

However, bookings received during the knockout phase continue to accumulate until the semi-finals.

That leaves Jude Bellingham one yellow card away from suspension.

The Real Madrid star was cautioned during England’s Round of 32 victory over DR Congo, meaning another booking against Norway would automatically rule him out of a potential World Cup semi-final should England progress.

The situation places extra responsibility on the midfielder, who will need to balance his usual aggressive style with the need to avoid unnecessary disciplinary action.

Notably, Bellingham is not the only England international facing the possibility of missing the next round.

Alongside the Real Madrid midfielder, Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly also head into the quarter-finals carrying an active yellow card.

Any of the four would receive a one-match suspension if booked against Norway and England qualify for the semi-finals.

Among them, Bellingham’s availability is likely to be the biggest concern, as his influence has grown throughout the tournament, with his all-action displays in midfield becoming one of England’s greatest strengths.
