David Alaba’s future at Real Madrid appears increasingly uncertain. The Austrian defender is not part of Xabi Alonso’s core plans, and although the club attempted to facilitate his departure before the start of the season, he chose to stay and honour his contract with the club.

Injuries have become a hurdle for the veteran defender, while he finds himself behind the likes of Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen, and Raul Asencio in the pecking order.

As has already been reported, Los Blancos do not intend to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season. But there is now an opportunity for Alaba to leave Real Madrid in the winter transfer window.

Alaba wanted in the MLS

Indeed, according to reports relayed by Defensa Central, MLS outfits Charlotte FC and New York City FC have offered €1.75 million to sign Real Madrid centre-back Alaba in the January transfer window.

The former Bayern Munich captain earns €22.5 million gross per season, and Real Madrid are keen to offload that salary as soon as possible.

As such, the Spanish capital giants are open to his exit in January and believe an agreement could be reached quickly if the player agrees to the move.

However, Alaba himself is not enthusiastic about leaving. Sources close to the player indicate that he feels comfortable in Madrid, enjoys a good relationship with his teammates, and believes he can still contribute to the squad both on and off the pitch.

The main obstacle remains his physical condition – whenever he plays, he struggles with recurring discomfort that prevents him from maintaining rhythm and consistency.

A respected teammate

Despite his limited involvement, Alaba has never caused any issues within the dressing room. On the contrary, he is highly regarded by both the players and the club’s staff.

Many believe that, had he stayed fit, he could have enjoyed an exceptional career at Real Madrid. Although injuries and timing have worked against him, his first couple of seasons left a strong impression.

Within the squad, Alaba commands deep respect and affection. His professionalism, leadership, and willingness to support the team in any capacity have made him one of the most admired figures in the dressing room.

However, his time at Real Madrid seems to be nearing its end, with an exit either in January or at the end of the season, very much likely.
