It has been quite some time since Bayern Munich vowed the extend the contract of star defender Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman, who has been one of Bundesliga’s top-performing defenders this season, was on Real Madrid’s radar.

But reports soon emerged that Bayern are confident of renewing his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

However, as we approach the end of the year, Bayern Munich have yet to announce any kind of deal with Upamecano.

This has tempted Real Madrid to keep a close eye on Upamecano’s situation, with Los Blancos ready to pounce on any opportunity, reports Santi Aouna.

Real Madrid are not alone in the chase either, as Paris Saint-Germain, too, are keen on acquiring the services of the Frenchman on a free transfer.

The report suggests both clubs are ready to meet Upamecano’s contract demands, should he fail to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich.

The potential arrival of Upamecano could be a massive boon for a Real Madrid team struggling with injuries all season.

Not to mention, the club may soon lose David Alaba while Antonio Rudiger’s future at Santiago Bernabeu is also far from secure.

The addition of someone like Upamecano, therefore, could go a long way in strengthening the defensive pack. He can not only add quality to the table but also serve as an able competitor to the likes of Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.

Most importantly, the Frenchman would be available as a free agent, making it easier for Real Madrid to acquire his services.

Therefore, the coming weeks could prove to be critical as clubs like PSG and Real Madrid keep a close eye on Upamecano’s contract talks with Bayern Munich.
