According to reports, Real Madrid have been left ‘perplexed’ as Manchester United are keen to reward Michael Carrick with a transfer.
There have been conflicting reports about Carrick’s future at Man Utd, with it unclear whether he will remain at the club beyond the end of this season.
Carrick has certainly done his chances of securing the Man Utd manager’s job permanently no harm, winning six of his eight Premier League games in charge.
Man Utd lost 2-1 to 10-man Newcastle United last time out, but Carrick has significantly improved their hopes of sealing Champions League qualification and the players reportedly felt they let him down against the Magpies.
Carrick will put Man Utd’s board in an incredibly difficult position if they qualify for the Champions League, though a report in Spain claims they are already sold on the interim boss.
The report claims co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ‘very pleased’ with Carrick and ‘wants to reward his excellent work with a number of top-class signings’.
And the Red Devils are ‘particularly keen on’ Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck, who has made the ‘final decision’ on his future.
The talented centre-back, who is reportedly valued at around £60m, has also been linked with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but he has ‘left the market perplexed’ with his verdict on a transfer.
Schlotterbeck, who is only under contract until 2027, has made it ‘clear’ that he ‘wants to embark on a new challenge’ and has ruled out Bayern Munich as he would prefer to join the Premier League or La Liga.
There is also a ‘problem’ for Spanish sides, with ‘obsessed’ Man Utd among the Premier League teams ‘willing to make a big investment’ to land Schlotterbeck.
Man Utd will also look to strengthen in other positions this summer and former United defender Patrice Evra thinks they should prioritise Real Madrid starlet Endrick over other attackers.
“If I could sign one striker for Man Utd I would choose Endrick – he would be a great signing”, Evra told Stake.
“I’ve always loved watching Endrick, even when he was in Brazil. It was quite sad what happened at Real Madrid. He’s killing it at Lyon. Lyon have a great history with bringing in Brazilian players and making them bounce back in their careers, like Juninho.”
He added: “I couldn’t believe when Endrick said Bobby Charlton was his idol, but wow, that was really surprising.
“Come to Man United, Endrick, you’re more than welcome, especially if Charlton was your idol.”
