Real Madrid will host Barcelona this evening at the Bernabéu in the first meeting of El Clásico this season. Real Madrid are currently trailing Barcelona by three points in the standings, making this a must-win affair.

This will be the first El Clásico appearance for Kylian Mbappe, who will be looking to live up to his hefty price tag with a positive performance against his side’s bitter rivals.

Two places are up for grabs with Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo’s absences, leaving places open between the sticks and on the right-hand side.

Ukrainian Andriy Lunin is likely to step back into his role as deputy, and will be looking to produce more of the spirited displays that were on show during Real Madrid’s run to winning the Champions League back in June.

There are also questions surrounding whether Luka Modric will be given a starting berth or whether he will be more likely to feature off the bench in the second half of the match.

Should Modric start, Federico Valverde could move forward to the right-hand side of a front three, otherwise he is likely to take up his normal spot in midfield.
