Real Madrid called back the team’s former fitness coach Antonio Pintus recently as the administration saw him as the right candidate to help the team compete on equal footing with oppositions in terms of physical fitness levels.

Pintus was relieved of his duties as the first-team squad’s physical trainer last year and was moved to an administrative role within the club. But his exile did not last long as Florentino Perez soon saw the team to be lacking in the department he specialises in.

In fact, Defensa Central now bring to light that Perez watched the game against Atletico Madrid last night closely and that the one takeaway he had was about the team’s need for the Italian fitness specialist.

Perez’s trump card

Indeed, the Real Madrid president reportedly had a long conversation with the team manager and other stakeholders about the team’s poor physical preparation and how it was evident in how they played on the field.

He sees Pintus as the right candidate to help improve Real Madrid’s physical condition, and the Italian fitness trainer was already on the sidelines in the semifinal against Los Rojiblancos.

There is conviction within the administration that the trainer can get the players looking better and ‘flying’ in the second half of the season where the serious trophies will be at stake – something Real Madrid cannot afford to lose after last season’s dry run.

Perez and Co. also see Pintus to be heavily undervalued and feel that what he brings to the team is not appreciated enough.

Such is the president’s faith in the trainer that the decision to bring him back has been made without paying heed to Alonso’s stance.

Only time will tell the extent to which the fitness expert’s return can turn around Real Madrid’s fortune and performances. While physical fitness is indeed a concern, it is just one of the numerous boxes not being ticked by the team currently.
